About Mental Health

This time of year, Congress makes decisions on funding important programs and services. We need your voice to tell policymakers to pass a budget that invests in mental health research, services and supports.

Fortunately, the House Appropriations Committee has already shown that they are willing to support Americans affected by mental health conditions by passing a funding bill for labor, health and human services (HHS) and education that includes significant increases in programs, research and services that impact people with mental illness.

This bill—which funds agencies like the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) — includes increases of:

  • $79 million for NIMH for research to help us better understand illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression and improve diagnosis and treatment options.
  • $115 million for SAMHSA to help provide programs and services that are vital to people with mental illness and their families, including the Community Mental Health Block Grant. This increase also includes more funding for important crisis services in communities across the country.

We need your advocacy. The bill is going to the House floor THIS WEEK for consideration by the full House of Representatives, including your Representative.

Reach out to your Representative. Ask them to pass the Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations bill.
