About Mental Health

New research is bring us closer to

Can you imagine what the world would be like if people received the right treatment for their mental illness the first time?
New research is bringing us closer to getting these answers and helping us understand genetic risks for developing illnesses like schizophrenia. But more brain research is needed to build on today’s discoveries and offer the hope of better treatment in the future.
Mental health reform bills in Congress support research by:
• Investing in the Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative at the National Institute of Mental Health, and
• Establishing an Interagency Serious Mental Illness Coordinating Committee to promote effective mental health services and to report every year on advances in mental health research.
Help is close at hand—but Congress needs to act.
Contact your members of Congress. Tell them that brain research is vital and so is their vote on mental health reform.
