Our Mission
MISSION
Dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with mental illness and their families through support, education, and advocacy.
NAMI SMC GOALS
In support of our mission, we work to ensure the dignity of those diagnosed with a severe mental illness and their family members. We advocate at the county, state, and national level to secure non-discriminatory access to quality health care, employment opportunities, housing, and education for those with mental illness. We also work toward bringing an end to the stigma associated with mental illness with education for the public. To support these goals, NAMI SMC holds educational classes and support groups for individuals diagnosed with a severe mental illness, as well as their family members, and conducts outreach into the community about mental illness. Our HelpLine phone (650-638-0802) is people’s first point of contact to obtain resources, support and understanding in how to move towards treatment and recovery.
OUR VISION
In our envisioned future mental illness will no longer thwart a person’s fulfillment of his or her potential. With early pinpoint diagnoses, interventions, targeted medications and services, there is no on-going disability. Ultimately, we envision a day when prevention or a cure is found.
